Prince Idornigie '18
Prince Idornigie is a 2018 graduate of WVU Tech, holding a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering with a focus on electrical power and energy systems, with a minor in mathematics and sport management. After completing his undergraduate studies, Idornigie signed a professional contract to play soccer in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He also began his professional career at a leading electrical engineering company, contributing to various projects in the energy and technology sectors.
His time in the power industry allowed him to develop a strong foundation in engineering principles, while honing his problem-solving and technical skills. After he spent four years working and playing professional soccer, he pursued and successfully completed a master’s degree in electrical engineering with a focus on electromagnetics at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. He worked under the supervision of Dr. Shu Xiao on Electromagnetic Simulation of Nanosecond Pulses in Brain Stimulation. His research focused on how the size of the electrodes and the space between them affected the spatial distribution of the current density during electromagnetic simulation in brain stimulation.
He worked with Dr. Chunqi Jiang as a teaching assistant for Electrical Engineering Electromagnetics for two years. This advanced study further sharpened his specialization and provided him with the knowledge necessary to tackle complex challenges in the evolving field of electrical power.
Currently, Idornigie is making significant strides in the electrical power industry, where he applies his expertise to design, optimize, and manage critical infrastructure projects. His innovative approach and technical acumen have earned him recognition as a rising leader in the field. With a passion for continuous learning and a drive to innovate, he is poised to make an even greater impact in the years to come.
Idornigie received a soccer scholarship at WVU Tech and played for all four years, where he helped lead the team to its first back-to-back National Championship in 2013 and 2014. He was also named an All-American. Aside from his athletic career, he was nominated for the First-Year Student Excellence Award, received the Outstanding Electrical Engineering Student Award his senior year, was an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and frequently participated in campus activities.
A native of Lagos, Nigeria, he currently lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. In his free time, Prince enjoys socializing, playing video games, soccer, biking, and networking.
