Scotty Stone graduated from WVU Tech in 2016 and has dedicated his career to strengthening communities and expanding opportunities across southern West Virginia. Scotty is a 2024 Fellowship alumnus of Generation West Virginia, where he discovered his passion for community development, a calling that led him to join the Clay County Business Development Authority. In 2025, he completed the FBI Pittsburgh Citizens Academy and became a proud member of the Pittsburgh Citizens Academy Alumni Network, deepening his understanding of leadership, national security, and civic responsibility.

As a student at WVU Tech, Scotty immersed himself in campus life. He served as a resident assistant, contributed to the school newspaper during his freshman year, taught and mentored students through the Upward Bound program, acted as a student ambassador, participated in Greek life, and served as the Vice President of Greek Council in 2014.

After graduation, Scotty became WVU Tech’s first Service & Learning AmeriCorps VISTA, where he built a network of nonprofits across the southern coalfields of Raleigh and Fayette County to strengthen volunteer opportunities and civic engagement for WVU Tech students. He went on to serve as a Child Protective Services Social Worker with Raleigh County Child Protective Services and later as a Clinical Supervisor for ResCare, continuing his mission to support families and communities in need.

Scotty joined Goodwill Industries of the Summit in 2021 as an employment specialist to help create sustainable pathways out of poverty and reduce barriers to employment. In 2024, he was promoted to Southern Programs Manager, overseeing Goodwill’s nonprofit program deployment across twenty counties in central and southern West Virginia. His leadership has focused on workforce readiness, training for energy and empathy, community collaboration, and long-term economic empowerment.

Beyond his professional work, Scotty is deeply engaged in civic and regional leadership. He serves as Board Treasurer for the Clay County Business Development Authority and sits on the Board of Directors for the Elk River Trail Foundation. Through his work with the Clay BDA, Scotty helped secure four public transit buses for Clay County in partnership with the University of Charleston, the Clay County Commission, and the Mountain Transit Authority, expanding transportation access and economic mobility for local residents. Scotty credits WVU Tech for giving him the foundation, mentors, and community spirit that continue to guide his work today.

Scotty was born and raised in Clay County, WV, and is a proud first-generation student. In his free time, Scotty can be found posting original music online, but you can also catch him kayaking, hiking, writing his fantasy novella, or seeking out his next travel destination.
