Dr. Bridget A. O'Brien '03
Dr. Bridget A. O'Brien is a 2003 graduate of WVU Tech. She is a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist with over ten years of post-fellowship experience. O’Brien completed medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, West Virginia, her residency in general surgery at WVU Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia, and her fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. Prior to relocating to Texas, she expanded her clinical experience as a surgeon and assistant professor at a community-based academic hospital in Columbus, OH. She continued to educate surgical residents and students through the Seton Breast Clinic/Dell Medical School through 2022.
Dr. O'Brien treats female and male benign and malignant breast conditions and performs minimally invasive office procedures including ultrasound-guided biopsy and aspiration as well as the full range of operative breast surgical oncology procedures.
Dr. O’Brien has a great passion for education and is currently a national speaker and educator for Stryker Hidden Scar Surgery™. She has taught other surgeons through regional, national, and international courses on these Hidden Scar™ innovative techniques to close the defect left behind from the removal of breast cancer. This can significantly reduce the cosmetic defect and changes often experienced with breast conservation surgery.
She has previously been a national speaker for Bright Pink, educating young physicians about the importance of identifying patients with risk factors for breast cancer for genetic testing and/or high-risk breast cancer screening purposes.
Dr. O’Brien was raised in West Virginia, which sparked her love and appreciation for the outdoors. She enjoys spending time with her husband, two stepchildren, and furry family members. She loves to travel, attend youth sports activities, lift weights, hike, cook, and dares to ride the tallest, fastest rollercoasters just to cherish the excitement with the kids.
