West Virginia University Institute of Technology was founded as the Montgomery Preparatory School in 1895. Throughout our more than 100 year history, we have graduated many alumni who have gone on to have vital and productive careers in areas such as engineering, technology, business and health care.
Tech is known for its more than 40 excellent baccalaureate programs of study – in engineering, sciences, mathematics, health care, business, humanities and social sciences. The University is most well known for its STEM focus (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Our programs are housed in the College of Business, Humanities and Social Sciences, the Leonard C. Nelson College of Engineering and Sciences, and the WVU Department of Nursing. We pride ourselves on our outstanding and dedicated faculty and staff who are committed to helping our students achieve their dreams.
We are further distinguished by our campus-wide commitment to preserve the qualities that make us unique. High on this list is our reputation of providing each and every one of our students with the individualized attention they need to succeed – whether in the classroom, the college community, or their future careers. Additionally, many of our undergraduate students have exceptional hands-on research opportunities.
At Tech we believe education extends beyond the classroom. We recognize the importance of student engagement and support a variety of extracurricular activities. Tech’s vibrant campus includes more than 30 student organizations and University athletics. Outdoor enthusiasts will find nearby recreational activities including: downhill skiing, hiking, mountain biking and white water rafting.
The Montgomery campus sits in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains, alongside the Kanawha River. Tech is conveniently located between two of West Virginia’s largest cities, the state capital of Charleston and Beckley. We hope that you will find time to come home and visit!
